The West Side Tennis Club made a decision which positively impacts generations to come when they saved the Forest Hills Stadium a half decade ago.
The concerts have been a wonderful thing for the community and now the club and the community face a crossroads on its future. Apparently, the club is about to sign a 16-year a deal with concerts and there will be a informational meeting next Tuesday for club members.
The contract gives Tiebreaker, LLC the exclusive rights to hold concerts and other events in the venue.
Forest Hills Stadium, which has hosted a handful of performers each summer over the past few years, will most likely see a substantial increase in concerts and events over the course of the year.
Forest Hills Stadium has undoubtedly caused Forest Hills to become a destination spot. More restaurants and shops in the area are receiving business because of the people who visit the neighborhood as part of the concert-going experience.
But the increase in concerts and events could be a negative for locals. At a town hall meeting with concert promoters last year, local residents voiced concerns over security among other things. The long-term contract extension could also limit the venue and potentially create issues further down the line.
Currently, there are 8 performers slated to perform at the venue with the list not being set in stone quite yet. Performers this year include Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The xx, My Morning Jacket, The Chainsmokers and John Mellencamp.
The Board will host an informational meeting for club members about the agreement at the West Side Tennis Club on Tuesday, February 28 at 7 p.m.
