Forest Hills director to screen film at QWFF

Forest Hills resident and director Flavio Alves will have his film “Tom in America” featured in the upcoming Queens World Film Festival. The 16-minute short narrative will screen on Wednesday, March 16 at 8 p.m. at P.S. 69 in Jackson Heights.

After being married for 50 years, main characters Michael and Betty believe their life together is rather lie-free. However, a Tom of Finland doll brings up Michael’s deepest secrets and the couple’s world is turned upside down. The film follows whether or not their love can prevail.

Alves is a Brazilian writer, film director and producer. He was granted political asylum in 1998 and worked briefly for both Hillary Clinton and Anthony Weiner. After attending NYU to study film, Alves has directed and produced more than 20 films. He is also the founder of Queens Pictures, a film production company.
