Maritza Carmona (left) is welcomed to the board of directors of The Forest Park Trust by president Michael Palermo (VP and mortgage officer at Maspeth Federal) and Forest Park Administrator Portia Cook Dyrenforth. Carmona grew up in Maspeth and Ridgewood. She attended PS 153, IS93 and Grover Cleveland High School. She is a resident of Glendale, a member of Community Board #5 and is the director of government affairs at BRIC, the cultural arts and media non-profit in Brooklyn.
“I run in the park often and having grown up in this neighborhood makes it special to be a part of this organization that brings so many great programs to park goers,” she said.
“Maritza will, no doubt, be a great board member. Her skill set is vital to our success as an organization,” said Mr. Palermo.
The Forest Park Trust works with the parks department to support, maintain and run programs in Forest and Highland Parks. The 500 acre park is home to a golf course, a bandshell, hiking and bike trails, a carousel and so much more. Highland Park covers over 100 acres and includes the historic Ridgewood Reservoirs ball fields, picnic areas and tennis. Every Friday is Restoration Fridays where volunteers meet at Park Lane South at 10 a.m.
The Trust runs free music concerts at the bandshell (along Woodhaven Blvd) on Thursdays throughout the summer. On July 11 this season there will be an Eagles Tribute Concert. July 25 will feature a Jimmy Buffet Tribute and August 1 will feature a tribute to Rod Stewart. On June 15 at 11 am, the Trust is running a Forest Park Carousel and Bandshell Memorial Celebration with games, free rides on the carousel, arts and crafts, music and a whole lot of fun. All are welcome. Visit forestparktrust.org or stay tuned to listings in this newspaper for future programs.
