A decision on the QueensWay might be coming within the next few months, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio at a recent town hall in Rego Park.
The 3.5-mile stretch of land and old tracks between neighborhoods such as Forest Hills, Glendale, Rego Park, Richmond Hill, Woodhaven and Ozone Park, has been the subject of many debates in the area. So far, two projects, the High Line-inspired linear park QueensWay and the public rail service QueensRail are the frontrunners for what the space should be used for.
While the MTA is analyzing the transportation option, the city is currently trying to determine how much the Queensway would cost taxpayers, de Blasio said.
The city’s decision could come “as early as a few months from now.”
“We’re closing in on a final decision,” he added.
