Wafa’s Mediterranean restaurant shuts its doors

Lebanese Forest Hills restaurant Wafa’s has closed down after five years in the neighborhood. The restaurant was located at 100-05 Metropolitan Avenue.
Owners Joe Salameh and his mother, Wafa Chami, will be moving to California for a change in scenery. However, with their lease now expired, an increase in rent also played a factor in the restaurant’s closing.
In its place, there will be a vegan restaurant opening up. The sudden shut down was shocking to many in the neighborhood, and has been bittersweet for residents who have called for more vegan restaurants in the area while also being fans of Wafa’s.
Some of Wafa’s bestselling dishes included the stuffed grape leaves, spinach pie, lamb shawarma, hummus, baba ganoush and tabouli.
No word on when the new vegan restaurant will open.
