With the 2015 US Open in full swing, Borough President Melinda Katz took to Arthur Ashe stadium to celebrate the centennial of the tournament being held in Queens. For many the US Open is all but synonymous with the world’s borough, however for 24 years it was held in Rhode Island before moving to Forest Hills in 1915.

“Queens is proud to be the home of the US Open,” said Borough President Katz, as she proclaimed September 2 “US Open Day in the Borough of Queens.  “The US Open is one of the strongest drivers of our economic engine here in the World’s Borough, and indeed the metropolitan New York City area.”
