GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson visits Forest Hills

Earlier tonight, GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson attended a Conservative Party meeting at American Legion on 107-15 Metropolitan Avenue in Forest Hills.
Unlike last week’s Republican debate, Carson had an ample amount of time to talk about a variety of issues that he viewed as imperative to restoring the country’s economic, political and social excellence. Speaking to a packed hall of local residents, some of the issues Carson addressed were racial conflict, the fiscal gap, terrorism, welfare, healthcare, taxes and abortion.
Carson also shed some light on why he decided to run for president in the first place. Although he had plans to retire after a long-lasting medical career as a John Hopkins neurosurgeon, he felt motivation to do something after coming across so many people who shared the same views of hopelessness with the country’s direction under the Democratic Party.
“I believe the majority of Americans actually have common sense, but what has happened is that they have been beaten into submission and they are afraid of expressing themselves,” he said.
Addressing the critics, Carson also made note that while he is not a politician, he doesn’t believe having political experience is the most important aspect of the race for presidency. He even managed to make a jab at another presidential hopeful, Hillary Clinton, who had to turn over her private email server the Department of Justice after it was found that at least five emails contained classified information.
“I won’t even give their name but they were a U.S. senator and Secretary of State, and spent many years in the political area, yet with all that political experience, they didn’t have enough political judgement to know that you don’t put important information that could jeopardize America in a personal email,” Carson said. “I believe that’s a fine example of what political experience can get you.”
Bob Turner, leader of the Queens County Republican Party, claimed that “while some people talk the talk, Carson walks the walk.”
Residents had questions for Carson ranging from the common core and education to the war on drugs.
