The Forest Hills Kiwanis Club and the American Legion Continental Post 1424 hosted the kick off party for the annual Forest Hills Memorial Day Parade at the American Legion on Metropolitan Ave. tonight.

Over chicken wings and pasta, local community members and elected officials spoke about the continued importance of celebrating veterans. Attendees also feted Roland Meier, president of the West Side Tennis Club, who was named the Grand Marshall of the event.

Meier said he was informed of his nomination while he was on vacation in Mexico. His reaction?

“I almost fell out of my chair and spilled my margarita,” he said.
