Winners of 2019 Participatory Budget vote announced

For another year, the district is looking after its children, judging by the results of the 2019 Participatory Budget.
Participatory Budgeting is a process where the community decides, by direct election, how one million dollars in capital projects will be spent.
Residents of Council Woman Karen Koslowitz’s district decided to choose:
1.) Bathroom Renovations ($600,000)
PS: 51, 101, 139, 175, 206, 220
2.) Water Fountains with Water Bottle Fill Stations ($400,000)
PS: 99, 101, 139, 174, 175, 206 & JHS: 157, 190
The results were very similar to last year’s vote, which also chose the funding to be spent on bathroom renovations and water fountains with water bottle fill stations for several schools in addition to bus countdown clocks.
“PB is all about having local communities decide which projects they want to prioritize, as we work toward a more transparent and inclusive city government,” said Koslowitz in a statement. “I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the volunteers of the 29th district who spent
long hours in shaping and creating a PB ballot. Without their noble and selfless contributions, this great democratic process could not have taken place.”
For this year’s Participatory Budgeting Voting Week, there were 3,000 votes cast.
