Tomorrow, August 30th is the last day to participate in Borough President Melinda Katz’s “Project: Back to School” Initiative. Katz has partnered with the Coalition for the Homeless to collect backpacks and other school supplies for homeless children.
“More than 111,500 NYC students were homeless at some point during the last school year,” says Borough President Katz. “These children deserve the opportunity to learn, no matter where they lay their heads at night”.
Borough President Katz’s office is accepting donations at Queens Borough Hall at 120-55 Queens Blvd in Kew Gardens on the first floor.
The Coalition for the Homeless says that they are also accepting #2 pencils, pencil cases, pencil sharpeners, crayons, colored pencils, washable markers, Elmer’s glue, glue sticks, composition notebooks, binders, looseleaf, safety scissors, folders, and calculators. Dave Giffen the Executive Director of the Coalition for the Homeless says, “We are truly grateful to Borough President Katz and her office for showing such compassion year after year by supporting Project: Back to School.”
All donations are anonymous and are not tax deductible. Donations will be distributed to students living in local homeless shelters.
It’s a pity you don’t have a donate button! I’d definitely donate to this outstanding blog! I suppose for now i’ll settle for bookmarking and adding your RSS feed to my Google account. I look forward to new updates and will share this blog with my Facebook group. Talk soon!
Together with the whole thing which seems to be building inside this specific area, many of your perspectives are actually rather exciting. Even so, I am sorry, because I do not subscribe to your entire plan, all be it refreshing none the less. It appears to everybody that your opinions are not entirely rationalized and in reality you are generally your self not really entirely confident of the assertion. In any event I did take pleasure in examining it.
