Meet the Author: Joan Silber and “Improvement”

This Saturday, August 11th at 2:30pm you can go to Forest Hills Library at 108-19 71st Ave, for the launch of the paperback edition of the novel “Improvement” by Joan Silber!

“Improvement” is the winner of the 2017 National Book Critics Circle Award in Fiction and the 2018 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.

The judges for the PEN/Faulkner wrote, “The art of this exquisite novel rests in Silber’s ability to weave the lives of her characters together into a complete whole, providing readers with intimate glimpses into the delicate and often unseen challenges of unassuming, everyday people.”

Joan Silber is the author of the story collection “Fools,” which was long-listed for the National Book Award and nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Award. Her first novel, “Household Words,” won the PEN/Hemingway Award. She has published six other books of fiction, including “Ideas of Heaven: A Ring of Stories,” a finalist for the National Book Award and the Story Prize. Joan teaches writing at Sarah Lawrence College.
