Forest Hills is pretty close to Sutphin Boulevard  & the Queens Surrogate Court. With that said, many of our residents probably have seen or heard of this court and wonder what it’s actually their for. In order to live a more efficient life we all need to learn about the legal services that exist around us. Here are some interesting FYI points about the court.
1. A court you go to when someone passes away and they have assets that need to be handled.

2. They handle probate (if the decedent had a will) and estate administration (if the person died without a will).

3. They also handles guardianship’s (when someone cant take care of their own affairs)

4. Their record room allows anyone to access public information by typing in the name of a decedent.

5. They will assist you in accessing a family members property in Queens which was sealed off by police.

They are located on the top floor of the Queens County Supreme Court (88-11 Sutphin Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11435). The Queens Surrogate court is a short Subway ride from Forest Hills using either the E or F lines. If you have any question about probate, administration or guardianship which would you like to address before arriving simply visit http://www.nycourts.gov/courts/11jd/surrogates/ and retrieve the contact information for the department you seek.
