The Kew Forest basketball program has developed from 21 student athletes to 126 students over the last three seasons.
On Saturday, their instructional program has eight sessions for 1st – 3rd graders, a lower school team, boys and girls middle, freshman and jv boys.
For the first time ever, KF has a girls jv developmental program, and it is doing terrific. Seventeen active student athletes learning and having fun playing basketball (see team pic below).
Next season, the Jaguars will have a Varsity Boys team to go along with the other teams at the school.
“It’s been much fun and work at KF over the last three seasons in rebuilding the program,” said coach John Della Marco.
“We have a no cut policy for the high school teams and as long as a student athlete comes to practice and continues to do well in school they may participate,” said the veteran coach.
“I have taken many of the teachings of James Regan (AD-Principal) and Ann Boyle (Assistant AD) from Martin Luther where I use to coach, and brought that philosophy over to Kew Forest. Mr. Henry Horne, Director of Admissions, Mr. Scott Gordon-Somers, Director Of Sport, Health & Wellness and Ms. Adriana DeMartino, Assistant Athletic Director at The Kew Forest School have been instrumental to the development of the basketball program. We have a great atmosphere to learn and play ball!” said Della Marco.
They are really doing well. I become very happy when see someone doing well in basketball. When I was young I was in our high school basketball team. After leaving high school, my basketball career stopped.
