Queens Community House recently hosted their annual Holiday Toy Drive, giving back to children in need.
The nonprofit received more than 600 toys from Aramark, GACE Consulting Engineers, Forest Hills Financial Group, The Kew-Forest School, Saint Luke’s Church, J.H.S. 157 in Rego Park and individuals. They handed out toys to some children during a holiday party recently. The party also featured snacks and a visit from Santa Claus.
Eviction Prevention Program Director Marilyn Sotomayor said that the spirit of giving doesn’t have to stop after December, adding that “for some, getting a gift in general is a huge moment and it can make all the difference in the world for a child dealing with homelessness.”
“Some of the parents thank us so much and tell us those are the only presents they will be getting this year,” Sotomayor added. “And then of course, we wish we could give them even more at that point.”
