Dear Editor,

Five reporter and anchors have sued Spectrum News NY1 for age and gender discrimination, resulting in Roma Torre, Kristen Shaughnessy, Jeanine Ramirez, Vivian Lee and Amanda Farinacci giving up their jobs.

I watch NY1 and find these women dedicated, knowledgeable and accomplished. A person's job performance ought to rest on their ability and how well they do their job, not based on gender and age.

In my opinion, this type of age and gender discrimination occurs in a number of companies today.

I am 71 years old and have worked for Northeast Plumbing in Mineola for 41 years. Five years ago, I had aggressive prostate cancer and when I recovered they took me back. How many companies would do that?

I was fortunate indeed to have extremely compassionate employers who understand my worth and dedication to the company. I only wish more companies would do the same.
