Nuke race

Dear Editor,

The U.S. and Russia have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 100 times over, and yet they still cannot seem to agree on how to extend the START treaty beyond next February.

The fear of an accelerated arms race between both countries, as well as China, which was not a signatory on this treaty, is becoming more and more likely. That will certainly heighten tensions and pose an even more serious risk to world peace and stability.

President Donald Trump has said that he would like China to be included in any future arms control negotiations, which would be a very good thing. However, China has already balked at this proposal.

One thing is for certain: a nuclear war must never be fought, because there will be no winners.

Sincerely,

John Amato
