While we should all support the "Black Lives Matter" movement, we also need to acknowledge the widespread problems caused by rising inequality.
To give themselves and big businesses more money and power, ultra-rich Republican supporters have enabled President Donald Trump to overturn long-standing laws, regulations, treaties and norms that protect us.
Their greed is endless and little to nothing has "trickled down." Trump's scandalous behavior has divided our country, alienated our allies and diminished our standing in the world.
Trump and his administration constantly spread lies and false information, deny the truth, and disregard and discredit experts. They and Fox News are the ones spewing "fake news," not the media outlets they accuse of doing so.
Worst of all there has been a shockingly inadequate response to the current pandemic, which probably resulted in the deaths of countless Americans. Trump lied about the coronavirus, denied that masks and social distancing would stop its spread, and refused to procure and distribute needed supplies.
The U.S. has only 5 percent of the world's population, but 25 percent of coronavirus cases and deaths. The economic fallout from an irresponsibly prolonged pandemic will be even worse.
We must have a landslide victory for Joe Biden and other Democrats in November. Trump and his enablers, Mike Pence, Mitch McConnell, William Barr and Betsy DeVos, must be removed from office and held accountable for their actions.
Democracy matters too, and we must prove beyond a doubt that we will not allow these self-serving Republican tyrants to destroy ours. It will take years just to undo the damage that has been done to our country.
