I was very comfortable and had a ton of success on the job. For me to leave my home for the last nine years, it had to be the ideal fit and the perfect opportunity.
Enter, the podmaster Bill Simmons.
I've always had a ton of respect for Bill's career. He is a guy who has been ahead of the curve when it comes to elements in sports media.
I was introduced to Bill's work during my freshman year at Syracuse University by a bunch of Boston guys drooling over his every word. I fell in love with his writing too, despite his love of Boston sports.
I saw Bill Simmons transform himself from columnist to podcaster and eventually to media mogul.
I didn't know him and was never introduced to him, but reading his columns and listening to his podcasts it became obvious to me, this is somebody I'd love to know.
Little did I know, I'd get that chance. In mid-December, I received a twitter message from Bill Simmons asking to connect.
It was one of those “holy ****” type of moments for me.
Media mogul Bill Simmons, the same Bill Simmons I've read and listened to for years, wants to pick my brain about an idea. You can best believe I was going to listen.
Bill's idea for me was a simple one. A podcast built around the radio show I've done in New York City on the sports landscape for the last nine years.
A podcast built around my knowledge and passion of the New York sports scene, the ability to still involve listener interaction the way that we do at WFAN, plus the resources of a company like the Ringer and Spotify in order to make it the best it can be.
The sales pitch was a winning one and I was hooked. Bill Simmons believes in me and wants to build a podcast around me. How in the world could I say no to that?
So, my next chapter is a New York sports podcast on the Ringer network that you can find on Spotify and Apple. If you enjoyed my show on WFAN, you'll love this podcast.
If there's a big story in New York sports, we've got you covered.
It's a podcast for folks who like New York sports, sports gambling and the chance to express your opinion.
We'll be live Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday nights, but when a story breaks, that schedule will change. We weren't scheduled to tape on Monday night, but with a loaded sports day and the trade of Jets quarterback Sam Darnold, adjustments were made.
I will be there for the listener, and I promise you that I will be relentless in making this podcast the best it can be. Let the next adventure begin.
