Dear Editor,

As the war in Syria enter its seventh year with virtually no end in sight, there is an ever-growing possibility of American troops fighting against Turkish and Russian troops who are in the country.

The United States and Russia support opposing sides in Syria, and could accidentally miscalculate what the other is doing, which could lead to a very possible and dangerous military confrontation between the two countries, which is the last thing that anyone wants.

Also, there are signs of increasing tension between Israel and Iran near the Syrian border due to the threat posed by Hezbollah, which is backed by the Iranians.

Since this conflict began in 2011, more than 400,000 Syrian civilians have been killed and as many as 11 million more have fled the country to escape the terrible conflict.

It is time for the United Nations Security Council to call an immediate emergency session to demand that all fighting in Syria stop immediately so that humanitarian aide can reach areas where it is desperately needed.

The fighting in Syria must stop before that region of the world sees further escalation of the conflict. Sincerely,

John Amato
