Would you wear your pajamas across the Brooklyn Bridge for a good cause?

Pajama Program is a national nonprofit that supports “every child’s right to a good night for a good day,” and the organization will host its second annual Pajama Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to raise awareness and support their cause.

The organization provides new pajamas and new books to at-risk children, often abandoned, abused and neglected, and living in group homes, shelters and temporary housing, so that they can “enjoy the greatest benefit of a loving bedtime and peaceful good night: a fulfilling good day.”

With little things like pajamas and a book, kids who have been affected by recent natural disasters such as Hurricane Harvey and Irma, can receive something comforting and know that they are being thought of. Additionally, as the weather gets cooler, children are in need for a warm and soothing good night.

Leading the walk will be Pajama Program founder Genevieve Piturro and TV Land’s “Younger” star Nico Tortorella. Tortorella and Dyce will join volunteers, philanthropists, corporate leaders, young professionals, and community members at the Manhattan side of the bridge, at 1-15 Centre Street, before walking across the bridge in pajamas.

“Although the Pajama Walk is a fun, lighthearted event, we walk to raise awareness around the importance of establishing a bedtime routine for children so that they experience deep, restorative sleep, which in turn leads to better days and self-actualization,” said Jamie Dyce, Pajama Program’s executive director. “The thousands of children we serve across the United States, often abandoned, abused and neglected, and living in group homes, shelters and temporary housing, are entitled to the brightest possible futures, and our goal is to do all that we can to ensure their 24-hour Good Day Loop is complete.”

“We look to local communities to help us collect and share the magical tools for a good night--a new pair of pajamas and a storybook can transform a child’s bedtime, ensuring that child’s right to a good night for a good day,” Dyce added.

Following the walk will be several family-friendly festivities at Brooklyn Borough Hall including face painting, a magician and a photobooth. There will be pizza donated by Nino Coniglio and his Brooklyn Pizza Crew. Coniglio, a nine-time champion of pizza dough acrobatics, will also present a kid-friendly pizza dough-tossing demonstration.

“Last year for our first ever Walk we had hundreds of New Yorkers and people living in the Tri-State area join us to walk in their pajamas to help us raise awareness for these children and teens who need our help and are deprived of these good night comforts that most of us take for granted,” said Piturro. “We are looking forward to even more people joining us this year.”
